GJA is one of many organisations that have signed up to an open letter to the leaders of all political parties, calling for a rapid transition from fossil fuels that protects the workers in the sector.  The letter states:

“All steps to accelerate the transition away from oil and gas must be accompanied by a clear and funded transition plan for the workers and communities that currently rely on the industry.”

The authors of the letter state:

Uplift, Friends of the Earth Scotland and Platform are asking groups to sign on to our open letter calling on the incoming Government to commit to a clear and funded plan for a just transition for the workers and communities that currently rely on North Sea oil and gas.  You can see the full text and sign the letter here.

GJA views this as taking a positive and proactive stance, with a clear focus on the long term job security of energy workers; recognising that North Sea Oil and Gas fields are in a terminal decline, which new exploration will not halt and barely impact, whereas the rapid transition to renewable energy jobs is the lifeline workers need.
